This module will help learners who complete the course to improve knowledge and competence in using the common functions of a personal computer and its operating system. Level 1 ECDL Essentials: Web Browsing and Communication / Using the Internet & Email
Use the Internet to provide information, using the address bar, search engines, links. Create bookmarks, favourites, printing. Use email to send and receive information, add addresses and information to address books/contact lists etc.
Following the ECDL (version 4-5 XP/Office 2003), this module is divided into two sections. The first section, Information, will help learners to understand the concepts and terms associated with using the Internet and to appreciate some of the security considerations. The learner, once successfully completed the course will be able to accomplish common Web search tasks using a Web browsing application and available search engine tools. Be able to bookmark Web sites, and to print Web pages and search outputs. The module also covers navigation within Web forms and how to complete Web forms.
The second section, Communication, covers concepts of electronic mail
(e-mail), together with appreciation of some of the security considerations associated with using e-mail. The learner, once completed the training, will be able to use e-mail software to send and receive messages, and to attach files to mail messages and also, organise and manage message folders/directories within e-mail software.
